Alicia Weston and Jake Hayes are two teenagers living a life like any other ordinary teenager. They are head over heels for each other and everybody knew it. Nothing could go wrong. Until one day. Over at the lake house that Alicia's parents own, an experience that Jake could never forget happened. Within a blink of an eye, Alicia was dead. She was gone, gone into the deep depths of the lake that was once their special place; now Jake's worst nightmare.
Alicia and Jake visit the lake house every summer; it was becoming a tradition as they have been visiting the lake house for the last four summers, even before their relationship occurred. But this summer was one Jake could never forget. Alicia and Jake were sitting on the edge of the lakes pier enjoying the view; until Jake left to go inside yo fetch something real quick, but before he got to the house he was suddenly stopped. Stopped by a loud splash; he turned round instantly. Alicia was nowhere to be seen. Jake ran straight over to the lake where he spots her scarf floating on top of the water. Although, he could not see Alicia he dived in head first, frantically trying to find her. She was gone.
ONE YEAR LATER:
Thursday 11th August - the day that Alicia died a year ago. Jake makes his way to the lake house. He has not once visited the lake house since last summer when he lost the most important person in his life. He doesn't know what to expect upon arrival, he has been too scared to visit since the accident but this time he had to man up and face the music. If he wasn't doing it for him, he had to do it for Alicia.
As he walks into the lake house he feels a sense of warmth. Although he is empty and lost without Alicia, just being in the house gave him a sense of comfort. As he walks through the house he notices how everything is untouched and perfect. Just the way he remembered it on this exact day a whole year ago. As he slowly walks around the house taking every last detail in, he comes across the bedroom in which himself and Alicia would stay in when visiting. Walking into the bedroom he heads straight towards the window looking out onto the lake. "You still came?" Jake heard Alicia's voice say. He turns round immediately thinking he's going crazy to find standing in front of him was Alicia.
Jake finds himself talking to what seemed the same old Alicia. She explained to him that she is his very own spirit and only he could communicate with her. They set a day and time that the two of them would meet every week to keep the communication alive. After all Jake would do anything within his power to get the slightest, although strange aspect of his girlfriend back.
The same day and time every week Jake would travel up to the lake house to visit Alicia straight from school. They would spend their time doing what they use to do, just like what any other teenagers do at that age. They would watch TV, play out by the lake or just spend their time catching up. Jake would talk about his family and school life, filling Alicia in with all the gossip going on whilst Alicia would tell him all about heaven, and helping him guide his life through the right pathway.
A few weeks later Jake finds his interests drifting towards his new science partner Bethany Cooper. Although, his heart was still with Alicia there was just something about Bethany that was different. He soon began finding himself spending more and more time with her. On the days that he wasn't going to visit Alicia he would be spending his time staying after school with Bethany as well as seeing each other outside of school.
The more time Jake spent with Bethany the more Alicia would fade away. Every time Jake went to visit her she would fade more and more every time, but Jake couldn't work out why it was happening.
This is the final time that Alicia and Jake meet but this time Jake has bought Bethany along to meet Alicia - after all Alicia is a big par of his life and has ben for many years, this is the last time before she fades away that Jake will see her. But it's no normal goodbye as Alicia warns Jake about a danger that is going to occur that very night. Although, Alicia warned Jake of this tragedy - she didn't tell him exactly what is going to happen. Before Jake even gets the chance to ask all the details, Alicia is gone - she has faded away. Jake was taken aback with his emotions. He didn't feel any emotion although the girl that was once the love of his life is officially gone forever.
Later that evening:
Despite Alicia fading away over 4 hours ago Jake still remained within the lake house. He has no grieving to do - it almost felt as if nothing really had changed. He still felt like a piece of Alicia remained in the lake house.
Jake left Bethany alone in the living room whilst he ventured into the kitchen to make the pair some popcorn.
From the fireplace a speck of fire shot from the fire and anded firmly on the woolly rug just to the left of Bethany. Oblivious to Bethany the small speck of fire slowly began to grow, slowly burning away the rug and its surroundings. Unknown to Jake, Bethany had fallen asleep on the sofa whilst he spent his time making popcorn in the kitchen until he smelt smoke. Slowly the lake house began to fill with thick smoke.
Jake makes a sharp exit from the kitchen and heads straight towards the living room where he last saw Bethany. Battling through all the smoke and flames he frantically searches to find her. He's already lost one girlfriend in this lake house, he can't go losing another.
