Key Frame 1:
The film will begin with a long shot of the lake around the back of Alicia's lake house. This is taken facing the lake house where you see Alicia an Jake sitting on the far end of the lakes wooden pier looking onto the lake with their backs towards the audience. The scene is set during the day therefore; natural lighting will be used throughout. This scene is very minimalistic and expresses the calm atmosphere before it turns to the worst.
Key Frame 2:
The next key frame is a two person shot, which will be a medium shot of Jake, buy Alicia is in the distance/background. Again it is set by the lake/same view as the first key frame however, Jake is seen to be walking away from Alicia and the lake heading towards the house. We can only see Alicia's back whilst she sits cross-legged, this portrays her as being a closed off character but also puts the audience in the mystery and suspense of what she looks like.
I will be taking inspiration from this scene in Charlie St Cloud. The shot will be very similar however it will be more forward facing and Alicia will be sitting on the pier cross-legged facing away from the camera.
Key Frame 3:
This key frame is a long shot looking side on onto the wooden pier whilst Jake runs down it heading towards the lake but Alicia is gone. Although it is a still frame it is a fast-motioned picture where you can see the fearing expressions on Jake's face when looking for Alicia. Going from one shot of Jake walking away with Alicia sitting there to having Jake run towards the lake with no Alicia puts the audience on edge and creates suspicious thoughts as to where she could have gone, if she is in the lake, how did she get there? Did she jump or did she fall?
Key Frame 4:
Key frame 4 will be a medium action shot of Jake about to dive into the lake where he believed Alicia might be. The shot will be of Jakes back with the lake in front of him, which gives the audience a sense of direction as to where he is heading.
Key Frame 5:
This key frame is a medium shot of Jake sitting on the end of the pier with his face in his knees soaking wet. It implies that he is heartbroken and cannot find Alicia despite jumping in after her - she is nowhere to be seen. The lighting for this shot is quite a dull, dark light to make it more dramatic, the lighting change will reflect Jakes mood.
Key Frame 6:
This key frame is based one year on from the day of Alicia's death. The shot shows Jake walking through the door of the lake house. The shot is coming from the inside of the house looking out onto Jake walking in and the surroundings behind him. This shot is a close up shot, which allows the audience to connect with his emotions and see his facial expressions.
Key Frame 7:
This shot will be a long shot of the surroundings within the lake house. You see Jake walking past a unit against the wall staring at the photos that lay on top of Alicia and her family and he almost strokes them as he walks past them staring at her face that he misses. His hand brushes against them in remembrance of Alicia. Due to it being a long shot you get to see the whole of his body therefore as the audience you get to witness his closed off body language when viewing the photos of the girl he loved that he hasn't seen for a year.
Key Frame 8:
Key frame 8 will be an over the shoulder shot of Jake holding up and admiring a photo of Alicia. It will be a close up of the side and back of Jakes head holding up the photograph. Jake's head will be dropped at the photo which brings out the emotions from Alicia no longer being alive.
Key Frame 9:
Here there will be a close up of Jake looking into the distance outside of Alicia's old bedroom window. In this shot you see the whole of the back of Jakes head with part of the outside distance through the window, however part of Alicia's spirits head is also in shot. This s the first appearance we see of Alicia since her death. Her appearance is a little more faded than Jake's due to her being a ghostly/spiritual figure. Alicia is positioned behind Jake where he cannot see her however it's not directly behind so as an audience we can still view bot characters and know she is there.
Key Frame 10:
This shot will be a two person shot but from the back of Alicia's head. The shot will be facing the window where Jake standing with the surroundings in the background and all you can see is Jakes facial expressions and the back of Alicia's head. The reason for having her back to the audience is so that we can see Jakes reaction, we get the impression they that are in conversation as well as keeping the mystery going with Alicia. It will be a medium shot so from the head to the waist which will enable us to see the body language and expressions from both characters.
I will be taking inspiration from this scene in The Fault In Our Stars. Jake will be taking the place of Hazel and Alicia will be taking the place of Augustus although they will not be sitting down and Jakes facial expressions will be different to Hazels.
Key Frame 11:
This scene is set at school in the science lab. It is a long shot in order to see the surroundings facing from the front of the classroom to the back so the whole room is in shot. Although it is a long shot the main focus will be on Jake and Bethany.
Key Frame 12:
Here we will see two different scenes in one. This key frame will be a split screened picture where we see Jake and Bethany staying behind late at school to be together but on the other hand we begin to see Alicia fade into the distance.
Key Frame 13:
Again this will be another split screened key frame like key frame 10 but this time Alicia has faded even more to the point where you can barely see her anymore. Alicia is looking over on Jake whilst he goes to the cinema with Bethany. The more time he spends with Bethany the more Alicia fades.
Key Frame 14:
This shot is the last time we see Alicia. The shot shows Jake and Bethany standing in Alicia's lake house but Alicia is so faded its hard to see her. It is a medium to long shot that shows the three standing up with Alicia facing Jake and Bethany. They are in conversation. The shot is side on facing.
Key Frame 15:
Key frame 15 will be the exact same shot as key frame 14 however there is no Alicia. Jake and Bethany are in the same position etc, the reason for this is because it allows the audience to notice the different. They can notice that Alicia is no longer there - she has faded away as well as it making it more dramatic.
Key Frame 16:
Key frame 16 is Bethany alone in the living room sitting on the sofa by the fire. This shot is a long shot as it allows the audience to see the surroundings and set the scene where Bethany is alone.
Key Frame 17:
This key frame is a medium shot of Jake making popcorn in the kitchen. It will be a side on shot of Jake in order to show him making the popcorn as well as setting the scene around him.
Key Frame 18:
Key frame 18 is a close up of the speck of flame from the fire that has came from within the fire onto the rug placed by Bethany asleep on the sofa.
Key Frame 19:
This key frame is a medium shot of the large fire that has gone up in the living room of the lake house with Bethany still asleep on the sofa. The fire itself is bright which lights up the surroundings.
Key Frame 20:
Key frame 20 is a medium shot of Jake running through the door of the living room where the fire has broke out. Jake is standing within the doorway with a horrified look on his face and the smoke is surrounding him making it hard to see.
